Disability Task Force
In April 2020 a Disability Task Force was set up to monitor the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the disability sector. The Task Force is made up of different individuals, entities and organisations that are directly involved within the disability sector to ensure a holistic approach. Furthermore, in an effort to remain focused and productive the said Task Force is made up of different sub-committees according to the participating members’ area of expertise.

We at CRPD encourage all persons with disability to conform to regulations on the wearing of face coverings when going out. Staying safe is key, not only to the wearers but also to those around them. This short Q&A has been prepared for persons with visual impairment, particularly to those who for valid reasons experience some issues when wearing masks or visors.

We at CRPD encourage all persons with disability to conform to regulations on the wearing of masks and visors, which is to be extended to all persons around them in general. Acknowledgment should be made however that there are a number of persons with disability who may find it difficult or impossible to wear such face protection due to valid reasons. For Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people, the wearing of masks and visors could hinder communication with those around them.

Enhancing Accessibility for Persons with Disability during the COVID-19 Pandemic
We at CRPD believe that reconciliation between safety and inclusive practices is possible. The following guidelines target retail outlets and other entities such as supermarkets in order to enhancing accessibility of their products, services and facilities inasmuch as practically possible whilst keeping the health and wellbeing of their employees and customers in mind.
